Banana day.

Hey everyone, Last night we decided we needed to get out of the house after a few sick days in we needed a treat! So we decided to go try Sub-Zero Ice Cream.

source

Neither of us have ever been there before. Its a pretty cool place. You go and tell them
1. What size you want.
kid size, small, medium or large

2. What kind of cream
Custard, Milk, Yogurt, Low-fat, Soy, or Rice.

3. What kind of flavor
They have trillon!!

4. What toppings?
You get one free then have to pay for any extra.

I chose
1. a kids size
2.Soy
3. white chocolate with raspberry (I actually meant to say w.c with raspberry toppings.. but he put raspberry flavor in to.)
4. Fresh Raspberries
They mix the cream and flavor by spraying it which freezes it with Cryogenics right in front of you. Its pretty cool. It made it fun.
source
Then they mix in the toppings.
Verdict?
It was okay.. my sisters was better..
I used soy.. but I should of gone with custard.
So word to the wise.
Go with the custard.

Breakfast

I asked the Mr. what he wanted and he said french toast.
sounds good to me.

4 egg whites, 1 yolk
Just a little milk
Mix
Dip your slice of bread in and place on your heated skillet for about 1-2 minutes and flip and repeat.
top with AB bananas cinnamon and whip cream ;)

Fries Rutabaga style

Hey Everyone! Sorry I have been MIA all week! I have no explanation besides its been a busy week.
My house is a little crazy right now...
I started making Valentine bows. Christmas bows wore me out.. so I'm getting started early on the valentine ones.

(yes, T was my model cause B was asleep at the time..shh.. don't tell his dad)

then the real craziness started..

It all started with my eye infection..
Then T & B got sick.. it was inevitable really.. It seems like everyone and their dog is sick lately. No fevers.. just puke and poo..
{poor sick babe}

But T is doing great and B is on her way there. No puke yet today so I think we are on the upside.

Now. I hurt my knee. How? well, it sounds dumb but I was skiing in place.. yes, I'm serious. I was practicing the new release for body attack (that we are releasing on monday!!) it is awesome for sure, but I didn't have shoes on and I caught my foot on the floor and my knee just twisted a little bit. good news. I didn't hear a snap so I think it just pulled something. :(
it only a little swollen.. now.
But Ill be chillin like this...
for awhile..
ANY TIPS? Im alternating ice and heat. If it doesn't start to feel better by Monday I may have to go get it checked out.. :(

I can't walk without a limp and teaching body pump today was interesting to say the least.. Although I was team teaching, so someone was there to pick up my slack.. literally I can't squat or put any weight on it at all! I HATE injuries.. not ideal for my line of work life.
Not to mention Tax season has started and the Mr. is an accountant so I'm playing the single mom life for awhile.. April 16 can't come faster..
On the bright side my eye infection is better and I made fries last night!

Rutabaga FRIES!!

These fries are delicious! and A great replacement for the Mc D's we all know and love.
What the heck is a RUTABAGA??

Its a vegetable, You can get it at any grocery store, I just picked mine up at smiths.
Its purple, round and sort of onion looking

*And moms.. you really may be able to trick your kids with these babies.*

Preheat your oven to 400

Peel your Ruta with a vegetable peeler

Then cut off the top of them

Slice and Dice into the shape of fries

Cover in olive oil or spray them with pam

Sprinkle with your favorite seasonings! I used chili powder and Mrs. Dash

Place in oven for 15 minutes

After 15 minutes rotate the fries and continue to bake for 15 minutes. Repeat until fries have reached desired doneness.. softness.. deliciousness. etc.

Perfect side dish for a turkey burger!

Hope you like them!

Hope you all are having a great weekend!!
Stay Healthy and Happy ;)
and no skiing in place okay..

{pompin it up}

How to cut a pom.

#1 Put on a Apron.
#2 Cut top of pom off.. the little tail looking thing.
#3 Cut it into 4 segments
#4 Pick out as much seeds that easily "pomp" out. hehe..

#5 Fill up a bowl with water
#6 place the remaining pom seeds, the ones stuck to all that white crap inside the bowl.
The water will help those seeds float away from the membrane aka "white crap"

happy NEW year!!

What is a better way to kick off the new year then.....

watching the ball drop on tv. in the comfort of your home...

                                          Banging pots and pans..
{my beautiful sister}

and of course getting that special kiss at the stroke of midnight
{nap head hair;)}

AND eating whole wheat cinnamon rolls!
I got this recipe from my friend. Courtney.  I changed it a little to "candify" it. And I must say they are the best in town. And they are pretty quick & easy to make!!

Ingredients:
1 loaf frozen white bread dough, thawed in refrigerator > Rhodes Whole wheat Loafs (3)
flour for dusting surface
* tip: Allow 6-8 hours to defrost in the refrigerator. I would just put them in the fridge the night before you make them. I didn't, and ended up having to defrost them completely in the microwave. Nobody likes to roll out dough that is frozen in the middle...

Filling:
1 cup packed brown sugar > Natural brown sugar
1 Tbs ground cinnamon
2/3 stick butter, softened > smart balance butter

Icing:
1 stick unsalted butter, softened > 1/2 C. smart balance butter
1C. powdered Sugar,
1/3 C. Cream Cheese > I used philadelphia fat free Cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to form a 15 by 7 inch rectangle in a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. Spread the 2/3 C. of of softened butter over dough and then evenly sprinkle  with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Starting on  the long edge roll up dough as for a jelly roll. Cut Roll into 16 slices

and then set aside in a warm place and allow dough to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hr. Start Preheating the oven at 400 degrees.
divide rolls among 2 lightly buttered round baking pans. bake for 15 minutes or until golden on top. While your rolls are baking mix all ingredients together for Icing.

Take rolls out of oven and spread icing over the top! Healthy option: don't put icing on.. But I highly recommend the indulgence ;)

Thats how we roll ;)

New Years EVE!

Happy New Years Eve everyone!! Do you have any fun plans??
Our night will most likely be hanging home and making sure T & B get to bed on time.. but the mr. and I will stay up and write our goals for ourselves and for our family. And watch the ball drop on tv. Party..? exactly what I want to do after this long week!
This year I decided to write OUR FAMILY MISSION STATEMENT
Family Mission Statement

We, the Bements, believe that our purposes as a family are to be christlike, to live with integrity, to live simply, to maintain a sense of family unity, to be good stewards of our resources and to lead by example.
We will accomplish this by:
*Valuing truth, faith and love as our main guiding principles.
*Making our home a place of peace, joy, kindness & hospitality.
*Prioritizing integrity above lesser values.
*Interacting with each other in a spirit of respect.
*Staying healthy and happy
*Making Christ first in our home. By building family Unity by praying, playing, working and worshiping together.

These are things that I want to focus more on this year.
  • Read books- I read blogs/fb...but growing up, I used to love to read books! I would read at least 2 books a week!! Then I hit high school, discovered cliff notes. and then got to the point that I couldn't even read one page without getting droopy tired eyes and passing out before chapter 2. Any suggestions?
  • Make church a priority- Don't judge me. But sometimes 9 am church does not happen in our house. Scripture reading is little. Praying is okay.. but could be better. We are the family that sneaks in the back half way through the service. I also think that visiting the temple once a month is important. Since I was pregnant we didn't make it a top priority as it should of been.
  • Plan meals- lets face it.. lately I open my fridge and just stare at everything, trying to decide what I want to make for dinner. The mister hasn't been home at night due to a crazy work schedule so I just give up and heat up some frozen veggies and make a protein shake and call it good.
  • Finally complete thebodyofamother.com.. Coming soon!
  • Improve my photography skills. I have a good camera.. but most pics I post on the blog are taken via i-phone.
  • Complete a Triathlon- I have never done one before and I am training right now. Swimming once a week, running 3-4 times a week. But I don't have a bike yet.. hopefully an anniversary gift?? (wink, wink to the mister)
  • Quality family time- Putting my family first, Nothing is more important to me. This I really do do but I want to continue throughout 2011.
  • Service- I want to do more service to those around me. I am guilty of making up excuses or making myself to busy with the stuff that I need to get done. Clean MY house, Wash MY car, Make OUR dinner, mow OUR lawn, (ok,  I don't do that). But I think I want to make the goal to do something for someone at least once a week.
  • Teaching- I love being a fitness instructor. I want to improve my teaching. There is always room for improvement right? I want to inspire those in my class to be the best they can be and make a difference in their life. And maybe pick up another class or two.. since I just lost two.
  • Pile habit- I gotta kick it. I am infamous for making piles.. clean laundry.. dirty laundry.. toys... ribbons.. throughout my house... I love to organize.. but it just seems the piles sit there for days.. even weeks.. So its time to focus on putting things away!

Banana Cream please!
Makes 2 servings
  • 2 large bananas, sliced and frozen for at least two hours
  • 2 scoops vanilla Protein ( I use elite whey )
  • 1/4 c. non-dairy milk or skim milk (I roll with almond milk)
  • 1/2 t. vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • 1/2 t. pumpkin pie spice
  • 3/4 t. grated nutmeg
  •  agave to taste

Whats for dinner??

Well.. somone once told me that if you eat black eyed peas on new years it will bring you luck throughout the year.. so the more beans you eat.. the more luck you have.. What to make with black eyed peas...hummmmm.?
How about SOUP!
New Years SOUP!

Ingredients:
2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
4 slim leeks chopped
1 large sweet onion
1 TBSP of sage. dried or fresh
6 C. chicken broth *low sodium
2 C. water
2 C. cooked black eyed peas
2 Pounds of grilled/baked chicken breast. cut into chunks
8 oz frozen spinach

Heat olive oil in pan, add drained leeks and chopped onion. Cook until clear and soft. this takes about 5 minutes. Add broth and water and bring to boil. Add chicken and peas and thawed spinach and continue to cook until all ingredients are warm.

OR how about Black-eyed peas and brown rice with Chicken?

Ingredients

4 Cups cooked, cold, long-grain brown rice.. I just use the minute rice
1 1/4 c. water
1 sweet onion chopped
2 ccelery stalks, chopped
2 garlic cloves minced
1/4 tsp ground pepper
3 c. cooked black eyed peas
1 butternut squash, about one pound chopped.
1 red bell pepper chopped
1/2 tsp hot pepper sauce. or more if you like it spiiicy~!

Put rice in a big bowl.
In large frying pan, bring water, onion celery, garlic and pepper to a boil.
Add black eyed peas and squash, return to boil.
reduce to low, cover and let simmer, stir occasionally until the peas and squash are tender and most of the water is evaporated.
Add. the rice, pepper and hot sauce for about 10 minutes and serve.
Thats my PLAN... now which one to choose..

But dessert is easy.. Cinnamon rolls!!! recipe to come!

Everyone have a safe and happy new years!

saying goodbye.. is never easy.

Hey everyone! how has your day been so far? Good I hope!!
Yesterday we were supposed to go see a play. But due to HORRIBLE weather. We decided it would be best and just spend quality time together as a family. I am sad that we weren't able to go visit here..

But I am glad that I was able to spend alone time with the mr. and our two little babes.
There is a bright side to everything right?..and have a little tummy time and attempting to roll over..
he just thinks its funny..

Missing the show last night wasn't the only bad news I received.. I got an email last night saying that one of the gyms I teach at is being taken over by another gym and they will NOT have group fitness classes. Honestly, WHAT is a gym without group fitness.. l.a.m.e.. if you ask me.. Anyway, This makes me so sad. I have enjoyed teaching there and have made so many friends.
So to the members that read my blog. THANK YOU! thank you for your determination, strength and kindness. You all mean so much to me. I hope to teach you all again someday.

This morning I taught my last attack class there. I was very sad to have to say goodbye to everyone. We had one heck of a good time.

2011 here we come!

Hey friends!! hope everyone is fully recovered from the holiday hustle! Anyone find any amazing after Christmas sales? Or did you just play cool like me and avoid the stores at all cost?

Today was an early morning for us all! We had a big storm blow in last night and it was loud!! B woke up about 2:30 am because of the wind and ended up snuggling with me and the mr. until my alarm went off at 4:30am to get up for an early morning swim with the GPP fishes.

I came home after an hour swim and snuggled with my babies in bed for an hour or so before getting them ready to head back to gym to get the WOD done.

Three rounds of:
1 min row (count calories)
1 min thrusters 45/65 (count reps)
1 min box jumps (count reps)
1 min KB swings 35/53 (count reps)
1 min OH DB press 15/20 ea. (count reps)
Rest 1 min between each round.
The clock does NOT stop between exercises.
Count total reps - add to total calories (from rowers) and post total to comments.
My total was 407!

GOOD WORKOUT today! I felt really good, considering the amount of sleep I got.. or lack there of.  But I took it for all it was worth.
Pre-Workout swim: was a half banana with AB. NO Pic.. I'm just going to admit.. It was to early to even care about finding a camera..

Post Swim
Oats! of course!

1/2 cup of oats. Cook in microwave for one minute
ADD
half scoop of protein vanilla whey,
1 tbs of ground flax seeds
and top with almonds
then I finished the rest of that banana.

Post workout #2
Protein shake on the rocks.
1.5 scoop of chocolate elite whey
mixed with water
add
3 ice cubes.

enjoy while reading about a curious monkey and a man in a yellow hat ;)
