Race Weight

Okay, Late night blogging will not become a regular thing.. it just seems like it the past couple days. Better late then never right? We had a early start today and have been go go ALL day!

This morning the twinners did their first photo shoot for J.J. Cole. They did such a good job! I'll post the pics asap.
When it comes down to any picture time with them, I totally build up a good sweat trying to get their attention and smile and laugh and look like they are perfect children all the time. Its tough stuff. How many rounds of peek a boo and tickle fest can you do for time?

They were pooped by the end! Baylee was literally trying to lay down on the dirty sidewalk she was more then ready for nap time!

We made it right on time for a workout at GPP. Tuesdays are strength days, we take our time to complete the work out. Each exercise was a heavy, challenging weight or skill --> ring dips anyone?
We ran to the grocery store for a few ingredients I need for a surprise tomorrow...
I came home to whip up a special thank you for my neighbor for just being amazing..(we really have the best neighbors ever, no contest) They only deserve the best.
Mama Peas PB dough balls were created, Lots of dough was consumed.... I'm in a cookie coma.. Always a good thing right before teaching a body pump class right?.. Because of the cookie overload, I decided it would be fun to add 5 air squats before and after each track.. The class did not stop moving and it ended up being a ROUGH workout, in a good way of course :)
please note: (I made the air squats completely optional, you know for those who consumed an equal amount of cookie dough.)
Post-workout I had a chocolate recovery shake. These will never get old. Sorry.

Then I got a head start on a project for tomorrow! ;)--> stay posted!
Now discussion for the night--

Race Weight

Lets chat about weight shall we? First off, I want you to know I'm not a fan of the scale, because your weight fluctuates every day, morning, & night. Muscle > Fat.. etc. I focus more on how my clothes fit and how I feel then a silly number.   A few days before this triathlon I weighed myself to see how my body would react after the triathlon.
What do you think happened?
You just ran a marathon, a triathlon or just a long training session. You just burned 3,000 plus calories.
You are sure you sweat buckets which you assume would lead to at least a 3 pound weight loss.. right?!

WRONG!

Maybe it's different for everyone but this is the second time I have done this with the same results. I GAIN 3+ pounds. And after researching it via internet it is totally a common and a normal trend post race.

Here is why-

When you exhort so much energy your body uses its glycogen stores to get to that finish line. When your done your body wants to replace that glycogen ASAP, just in case you decide to ever go out and do that again. Therefore, retaining water like a madhouse. Because your muscles have tiny tears in the fiber and will retain fluid to repair themselves. .No worries though, your weight will return back to normal, or less! Sometimes it takes a couple days, sometimes it takes up to a week.
Again, totally normal!

Q. Have you ever noticed weight gain after a big race?

Chocolate-Cinnamon Almond Butter

Getting back into routine...I have some new recipes to share in between my Hawaii posts.. For those of you who are here for the actual "food blogger" me and not the "vacation blogger" in me... Ps. Do not expect midnight post every night.. I'm still running on Hawaii time and since its like 7 pm there now I'm hungry for dinner and not tired at all.. So, in my weak attempt to get back on Utah time, here is a midnight post for all you almond butter lovers.

I have a love for almonds...

An obsession really. Raw, roasted, ground almond butter. I'll take it.
In a bowl, on a spoon, how about just my finger?

Lately my local grocery store has been a little short in the almond department. The grinder is "out of order" frequently, so I would have to travel farther to find a grinder..

So I just started making my own! Its quick and simple.

Chocolate-Cinnamon Almond Butter

  • 2 Cups Raw Almonds
  • 3 Tbs Agave Nectar
  • 2 Tbs Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tbs Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 C. Dark Chocolate chips
  • optional: Sea salt to taste

Toast your almonds in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes turning them once during the process

Till they are a little brown (not too brown.. you don't want to burn them.)

sidenote: Toasted almonds make a perfect snack too!

Throw cinnamon, coconut oil, agave and almonds in blender

Don't forget the chocolate!!!

Blend together in your blender or food processor till smooth or desired consistency is achieved

I love mine a little more on the crunchy then smooth side.

oh hey.. (can you see me?)

Chocolate+Almond+Cinnamon.. YES please!

Forget the spoon, my finger will suffice.

I'm counting down...

Hey friends! I have two days till we leave for Hawaii!
source

I actually haven't announced, that we decided not to take the twinners! After several tweet and facebook conversations asking for YOUR input the majority.. okay, practically everyone advised us to leave them home. I made a list of pros and cons, and as much as we would LOVE to have them with us, traveling will be easier, packing, suntime, naptimes etc. will be more enjoyable. We are going to take the week to relax and enjoy being baby free and actually doing some of our favorite activities TOGETHER!! I feel as if this last year we just haven't gotten to do much as a couple so this will be a trip to remember!

I can't wait! But my to-do list is a mile long! Our friends who are so SO kind to take T & B for the week are staying at our house so the babies will be in a familiar environment. So I want to make sure they have everything they need.
I went to bed last night with the intention to get a good nights rest, but my mind would not turn off! I kept thinking of all the things I had to get done and I tossed and turned till a eventually fell asleep around 2! Then I woke up by myself about 6 so I just got up and started crossing things off my to-do list! At about 7 everyone was still asleep so I figured I'd go get my workout in at GPP,  On the way out the door I snacked on half of a banana with some Homemade Cinnamon Chocolate Almond Butter! + a finger dip.. or two. (This stuff is delicious!
not actual picture.. but you get the point right? ccab is  def. chocolaty looking!

Recipe coming soon!!!

Along with a handful of mixed nuts I was out the door.
We did this workout today! KILLLLER! I felt great! There was a 400 m run X5 in this workout and my foot felt great!!! Thanks to my brother in law who is practically a Dr. and the new foam roller that I received last week!
When I got back home I of course whipped up a recovery protein shake
Chocolate for Breakfast?- Yes please!

  • 1 scoop of chocolate elite protien
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 5-7 ice cubes
  • 1.5 C. almond milk
  • pinch of each: gaur gum/ xanthan gum
  • 1 tbs of cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 2 handfuls of spinach! (spinach ALWAYS makes my shakes a funky color, mostly green if you + berries usually gray)

and took a little time on this sweet deal. I am LOVING my foam roller and highly recommend them if you are a runner or athlete! My hips get sore from running and I have knots that require a LOT of pressure to undo. This hurts in a good way!

Q. Do you foam roll?

Q. Hawaii Ideas? (if your a new reader, tell me the must do's in Hawaii!)

Its all about the chocolate.

Hey everyone I hope your having a great Saturday so far! I woke up early and snacked on half a banana

before heading to the gym to teach pump, My foot is still bugging me so no running today, hopefully it feels better soon!
Post workout all I wanted was some chocolate and of course its never a bad idea to add some greens!

In the mix

  • 1.5 scoop of chocolate elite protein
  • 1.5 C. almond milk vanilla unsweetened
  • 7-10 ice cubes
  • 1 tbs cocoa
  • pinch of gaur/xanthan gum
  • 2 handfuls of spinach
  • Topped with a few chia seeds
This shake hit the spot this morning! That extra tbs of coca makes it oober chocolately!! Its starting to get hot here, FINALLY I think its safe to say summer is here! I have been loving it! And now we are off to enjoy this beautiful day!!
