Bowling away the Winter Blues

I’m pretty sure winter is never going to end here…

IMG_2005[1]

Its been two days straight of this white stuff. My summer self is really craving the sun.

Bonus: I get to shovel! I strangely have fun doing it, Kind of like a bonus workout but you get to make a igloo to lay down in at the end! Winking smile

Main reason why I am really not loving this white stuff…

IMG_2021[1]

I keep getting stuck on the treadmill.. I know, I KNOW I should just woman up and dress for winter running and get out there but I kid you not, it was a WHITE OUT today. I don’t mind running in light snow… but 30mph winds and snow coming from every which direction… eh. No thanks.

I’m worried my early spring marathon is going to be a late winter marathon… I also don’t love being cold while racing… really

I also taught this jazz today.

The lunge track was by far my fav! LOVE that burn!

Since the snow still hasn’t stopped, I took the twinners bowling for the first time!

They loved it! A little crazy, in the taking turns aspect- but overall they did great and Bee even got a strike! Future bowling prodigy, I tell ya.

Iphones take best pictures…

The people in the lane next to us didn’t so much.. Tanner kept running over into their lane to watch his ball hit the pins. It was pretty darn cute!

Question of the Day:

Body Pumpers: What do you think of Body Pump 85?

Bowlers: What is your screen name when bowling? I always feel like I should be creative with it..

California dwellers: Can I come live with you?

Synergy Stew

Hey guys! It has been snowing here today NON-stop!

Somebody really loved it.

IMG_0217[1]IMG_0218[1]
First thing this morning he wanted to go “catch snow.” So we did.

I also broke out the Christmas music..I’m usually all against listening to Christmas music until AFTER thanksgiving but I thought maybe it would help me break out of my “snow, snow go away” thoughts. It did. A little.

Synergy Stew

Have you ever made a stew or soup and after you finished you thought “that would have been really good if..”? It was missing maybe just one ingredient to make it absolutely perfect?

I have.

Mainly because I usually decide to make a soup off a whim with left overs and almost always forget a little onion. (I love the flavor onions give in soup).

I’m going to take this a different route and relate it to MY personal synergy. Synergy is created when things work together to create a great income outcome.

What makes me good, or feel my best? What elements assist me in my life to achieve my best self.

1. SLEEP- I need sleep. I crave it some most days and honestly do not know how I got through the first few months of becoming a mom. When the twins sleep well. Mom does too! I’m happier, more energetic and less grumpy.

2. My family, husband and children- I love these people and their sarcasm, jokes and love. I know if I ever need anything I have someone to call. Chances they pretend their to busy to care are high, but I know they have the best intentions. ---Totally kidding. I love them all and they love me. Sarcasm at best.

3. My friends- My friends are some of the most unique, down to earth, funniest people I know. I don’t know how I could get through my day without their emoji text and sweaty hugs.

4. GPP- My day doesn’t go anywhere without getting my workout done first. I can’t get anything done around my house until I get my workout done.

gpphard

5. Me time- I love my schedule. I like having a plan, things to do, places to be, people to see kind of life. I also love having scheduled “me” time. To take a nap, right in my journal, blog, read a book etc. ME time is for my sanity.

6. Eating Clean- When I eat clean, I feel better. Easy as that.

Eating Chicken, Rice, Broccoli and raspberries while watching Greys? Even Better.

Blueberry Shake it.

Happy frigid Monday.

Last night I set my alarm for 6 am with a early run in mind. Then when I actually climbed in bed around midnight I wasn’t to sure about it. But when the alarm went off I jumped out of bed took one look outside.. to find a blizzard.. covered roads, 10 degrees. No thanks. I climbed right back in bed. If one thing trumps my motivation- its snow.. in the dark. I know a lot of people that just run right through it and love it. However for me that is not the case. Frozen snot face is not my style. And sometimes you just need the extra Z’s.

I made it to the gym a little later for a crazy-hard squat circuit.

Phew! Now, I’m really glad I pressed snooze earlier.. my legs probably couldn’t have handled that after a run. I’ll have to get my training run in later today though.

Post-Workout I still loaded up the blender with a recovery shake. Blizzard or no Blizzard.

Blueberry Shake

DSC_0153

In the mix:

  • 1 1/2 C. Almond Milk unsweetened Vanilla
  • 3/4 C. Frozen blueberries
  • 7 ice cubes
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein
  • handful of spinach
  • 1 tbs. Chia seeds

DSC_0154

Spinach + Blueberries makes a pretty grey lookin’ shake. But I like to always throw a bit of spinach in my shake because it’s a sure fire way to get some veggie love in for the day. P.S (You can’t taste the spinach). Just do it.

The vanilla protein I used, was this whey isolate. Its one of my favorites- not chalky, sweet and blends well with anything!

If you missed the protein Q&A check out round 1 and round 2

Off to knock out Mondays to-do list!

But I think someone wants to go play in the snow.

{First Snowfall}

This morning we woke up to snow! I have decided this needs to be a positive thing in my mind. Every year I kinda, sorta.. Okay, I really complain about it. It is beautiful and actually gets me really excited for the holidays.

And I get to have more Oats for breakfast! There is something about the comfort of oats on a snowy morning.

DSC_0519

Before pump this morning and fueled up with some pumpkin oats. I mixed 1/3 c. of GF oats with 2 egg whites and cooked for about 1:30 in the microwave then stirred in some pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg and a little agave. Never fails.

During the winter it can be a little tough to get your yourself out the door to get your workout done. Running in 20 degree temps doesn’t sound appealing now does it?

IMG_4860

So.. this is why I was chose to run on the treadmill today.

IMG_4859

My legs were feeling pretty Jell-O like after body pump this morning but I wanted to get a run in. I completed another tabata sprint workout like this one. Then ran an additional 2 miles to make it an even 5.

Winter Workout Tips

Here are some tips to continue healthy habits throughout the winter season.

  • Aim to get it done first thing in the morning. You don’t have to pack up the kids to take them to the daycare, and you won’t have to dwindle on it all day. Just go and get it done. (I LOVE my morning workout sessions!)
  • Throw your clothes in the dryer before heading out. That way you get to put on some cozy warm clothes before you get out to your car.
  • Make a plan! Decide what your workout will be before you go. If I find a good workout in a magazine or online somewhere, Ill jot it down and throw it in my gym bag. That way you always have a workout ready to go! You can find some AMAZING ones here.
  • Register for a early season race! That way you have to stick to some sort of training plan through the winter. I did it.. and you can to!
  • Shovel your driveway.. then your neighbors and maybe the sidewalk! FOR TIME… I actually really enjoy turning house chores into workouts! It motivates me to get it done a little faster and well.. just get them doneWinking smile
  • Get a friend! This is probably a dead giveaway, but when someone is depending on you to meet them at the gym you are more likely to show up.
  • Bring Healthy treats/snacks to potlucks and/or get together! You never know what will be served at the party so if you can offer to bring something like a veggie/fruit tray are easy to throw together.
  • Try something new- You may find a new class or different workout exciting and something to look forward to! Rather, it be Pilates, cross-training, or spin!
  • Home workout videos- Dust off the videos just incase there is a MAJOR—I mean.. major storm outside.. literally like you can’t even pull out of your driveway kind of storm.. Or if you don’t have access to a gym they can be a good alternative! Having some sort of home workout video or plyometric workout will insure you are able to get your workout done! NO EXCUSES!
